SET
The SET command is used to change individual parameters. As such, this command requires one of the following qualifiers. This section is arranged alphabetically.
/NOALIAS These commands allow use of an alias call to the PacketCluster software. This command is very useful for households that have two hams that both need to use the same packet station. For example if KR4F and N4HIX need to use the same station, KR4F could connect to the Cluster with his own call. Once logged, the following can be entered:
SET/ALias N4HIX
This informs the node that talk messages or mail to N4HIX should be sent to the packet stream where KR4F is actually connected. Using the SWITCH command changes the active callsign of the packet station insofar as the callsign on outgoing packets or mail. Both callsigns will appear in the Cluster user list.
To clear the alias, use the SET/NOALIAS command.
Syntax SET/ALias callsign
SET/NOALias
/ANSI
/NOANSI These commands control whether the PacketCluster sends ANSI escape sequences to your terminal. If your terminal supports them, it gives you nice reverse video highlighting of Cluster mail headers, prompts, etc.
Syntax SEt/ANSi
SEt/NOAnsi
/ANSI/ALT The normal reverse video sequence is ESC [ 7 m and this is what is sent to a user's terminal if they have enabled ANSI mode. However, some terminals do not use this sequence, but do understand the alternate sequence ESC G 4. If this is the case, the user should use the /alt qualifier on the SET/ANSI command.
Syntax SEt/ANSi/Alt
/BEEP
/NOBEEP These commands allow the user to enable or disable the alert beeps for all types of announcements, DX, WWV, and general announcements. Alert beeps are normally enabled for all users; if the user disables them, they remained disabled only for the current session.
Syntax SEt/Beep
SEt/NOBEep
/NODX_ANNOUNCEMENTS These commands allow a user to turn on or off the display of DX announcements. This command is useful if the user is downloading a message and does not want any DX spots to be entered into the file. DX announcements are normally enabled for all connected users. If the user disables them, this state is only valid during the current session. If the user disconnects and reconnects, DX announcements will be re-enabled.
Syntax SEt/DX_announcements
SEt/NODX_announcements
/NOFILTER These commands control what DX country announcements are being filtered by the Cluster software to prevent output to your terminal. The filtering is done by band, mode and DXCC prefix. See the discussion of DX Filtering in Section 2 -- User Topics
/HERE
/NOHERE These commands inform the PacketCluster and other users as to your availability in the shack. The SET/HERE causes parentheses to be removed from around your callsign in the user list that resulted from a SET/NOHERE command. The user's prompt line also reflects your HERE status. There is no other effect on announcements or Talk packets.
Syntax SEt/Here
SEt/NOHere
/HOME_NODE This command is used to specify a "home" node for each user. PacketCluster utilizes this information to send mail to the node to which a user normally connects, thereby reducing the amount of time between when a user connects and the time when he or she receives their mail. This is particularly useful in our system since the nodes use a "limited protocol" environment; i.e. each node does not notify all the other nodes when a user connects or disconnects. If the home node information has been specified, talk messages and mail will use it automatically to direct the information to the appropriate node. Because we have new PacketCluster nodes being added in occasionally, it is advisable to set this information in periodically during a time when lots of nodes are connected into the network.
Syntax SEt/HOMe node-call
Example
SEt/HOMe W4NS
/LOCATION This command allows you to specify your latitude and longitude. This information is used by the PacketCluster for Maximum Usable Frequency (MUF) and Heading calculations.
Syntax SEt/LOCation lat-deg lat-min N/S
long-deg long-min E/W
Example
SEt/LOCation 34 41 N 86 46 W
/NOMAIL_ANNOUNCEMENTS These commands allow a user to enable or disable the announcement when they receive new mail. This capability is useful during download of a message or file when any alerts might be unwanted. New mail alerts are normally sent to all connected users. If the user elects to disable them, they remain disabled only for the current session.
Syntax SEt/MAIL_announcements
SEt/NOMAIL_announcements
/NAME This command allows you to specify your name to the PacketCluster. This information is displayed as a greeting on subsequent connections to the PacketCluster and on any SH/USER commands done by other local users which specify your callsign. A maximum of 21 characters may be used for your name.
Syntax SEt/Name name
/PAGE This command allows you to specify the number of lines you want to see in a page when you are reading messages, bulletins or files. After a page has been sent to you, the Cluster will prompt you to either continue or abort the current output.
Syntax SEt/Page line-count
/QTH This command allows you to specify your city to the system. This information will be displayed on subsequent SHOW/USER commands which contain your callsign. QTH information can be a maximum of 80 characters. Under the present system we use of limited protocol exchange with the other nodes, this information is contained on the local PacketCluster node only.
Syntax SEt/QTH city
/TALK
/NOTALK This command allows users to enable or disable the capability for Talk messages from other users. If a user sends a talk message to another user who has his Talk capability disabled, he will receive a message to that effect. Talk messages are normally enabled for all connected users. Disabled Talk messages only remain disabled for the current session.
Syntax SEt/Talk
SEt/NOTAlk
/NOWWV_ANNOUNCEMENTS These commands allow the user to enable or disable the display of WWV announcements. WWV announcements are normally enabled for all connected users. If the user disables them, they remain disabled only for the current session.
Syntax SEt/WWV_announcements
SET/NOWWV_announcements
